Garrett County Memorial Hospital is a 55-bed, not-for-profit, acute care facility with a long history of serving the health care needs of Garrett County, Maryland and the surrounding communities in West Virginia.

In 1950, the dream of a hospital in Garrett County became a reality through the generosity of George W. Loar, who bequeathed $175,000 to Garrett County for the construction of a community hospital.Garrett County Memorial Hospital originally opened its doors with 30 patient beds and an emergency room, laboratory, x-ray department and operating room.

Over time, the campus has expanded to meet the demands of a rural community hospital. Services have expanded and been enhanced in response to the community's healthcare needs as well as the technological advances in healthcare technology.

Today Garrett County Memorial Hospital includes 55 inpatient beds, a 4-bed Intensive Care Unit, a 10-bed Subacute Rehabilitation Unit, Family Centered Maternity Suite, a 13-bed Outpatient Surgical Unit with a 4-bed Surgical Suite. The Hospital's laboratory, radiology, and respiratory departments are full service ancillary units equipped with state of the art technology. The Hospital's Emergency Services Department, which sees about 21,000 patients annually, is fully staffed and open 24 hours a day.

The second largest employer in Garrett County, GCMH is supported by a staff of 350 professional, highly skilled employees backed by state of the art equipment. The Hospital's medical staff is primarily comprised of a qualified team of family care physicians who combine their expertise with that of specialists in the field of dentistry, dermatology, general surgery, gynecology, ophthalmology, orthopedic surgery, pathology, podiatry, and radiology.

GCMH maintains a working relationship with several area hospitals including Western Maryland Health Systems in Cumberland, MD and Mon General Hospital and Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown, WV.
