Garrett Regional Medical Center is a 55-bed, not-for-profit, acute care facility with a long history of serving the health care needs of Garrett County, Maryland and the surrounding communities in West Virginia.

In 1950, the dream of a hospital in Garrett County became a reality through the generosity of George W. Loar, who bequeathed $175,000 to Garrett County for the construction of a community hospital.Garrett Regional Medical Center originally opened its doors with 30 patient beds and an emergency room, laboratory, x-ray department and operating room.

Over time, the campus has expanded to meet the demands of a rural community hospital. Services have expanded and been enhanced in response to the community's healthcare needs as well as the technological advances in healthcare technology.

Today Garrett Regional Medical Center includes 55 inpatient beds, a 4-bed Intensive Care Unit, a 10-bed Subacute Rehabilitation Unit, Family Centered Maternity Suite, a 13-bed Outpatient Surgical Unit with a 4-bed Surgical Suite. The Hospital's laboratory, radiology, and respiratory departments are full service ancillary units equipped with state of the art technology. The Hospital's Emergency Services Department, which sees about 21,000 patients annually, is fully staffed and open 24 hours a day.

The one of the largest employers in Garrett County, GRMC is supported by a staff of 400 professional, highly skilled employees backed by state of the art equipment. The Hospital's medical staff is primarily comprised of a qualified team of family care physicians who combine their expertise with that of specialists in the field of dermatology, general surgery, gynecology, ophthalmology, orthopedic surgery, pathology, podiatry, and radiology.

GRMC is a clinical affiliate of WVU Healthcare in Morgantown, WV.
