				<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Members of the Garrett County Memorial Hospital Loar Auxiliary were honored with a special appreciation luncheon at the newly opened Wellness Education Center on Pythian Avenue.</p>

<p>The Loar Auxiliary contributed $10,000 to fund a completely renovated and fully equipped kitchen, complete with an indoor grill and cooking island in the Wellness Education Center.&nbsp; In appreciation of their generosity, the Wellness Staff treated the members of the Loar Auxiliary to the first &ldquo;Healthy Heart&rdquo; Cooking Class and luncheon for the volunteers. &ldquo;The low fat, heart healthy entr&eacute;e and fat free chocolate cake received many rave reviews&rdquo;, remarked Jeannie Miller, RN, GCMH Manager of the Hospital&rsquo;s Health and Wellness Programs. &ldquo;This was the first of many Healthy Cooking programs to be featured at the Wellness Education Center. We look forward to demonstrating how everyday meals can be made healthier with some minor recipe modifications.&rdquo;</p>

<p>The Chaplain of the Year award was instituted in 2006 and is awarded to Hospital Chaplains who have given generously of their time and provided exemplary service as volunteers in the Hospital&rsquo;s Chaplaincy Program. &nbsp;Reverend Menker joined the Hospital&rsquo;s Chaplaincy Program in 1998 and served as a member of the Chaplains Executive Committee.</p>
<p>A plaque with the names of all honored Chaplains is located near the Chapel on the third floor of the Hospital. Today, the Garrett County Memorial Hospital Chaplaincy Program consists of 30 members representing most local denominations and continues to be backed by the Mountain Top Ministerium.</p>

				<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>A Safe Sitter Class is scheduled for Saturday, June 15 from 8 am to 3 pm at the GCMH Wellness Education Center on Pythian Avenue behind Garrett County Memorial Hospital.</p>

<p>Safe Sitter is a medically accurate program that teaches boys and girls ages 11 to 14 how to handle emergencies when caring for children.&nbsp; The class will teach young adolescents safe and nurturing care and the rescue skills needed to respond appropriately to medical emergencies.&nbsp; Students also learn tips for managing the business aspects of their babysitting job.&nbsp; Class admission will be on a first come first serve basis.&nbsp; You must pre-register to attend.&nbsp; The class fee is $35.00 and includes workbook and Safe Sitter Certification Card.</p>

<p>Located on Pythian Avenue in Oakland, the Wellness Education Center offers programs and screenings aimed at helping everyone improve their health and well-being through their daily activities and life-style changes. The facility offers a blend of traditional fitness with preventive care, health assessments and health improvement classes. Programs include weight management, exercise, educational workshops and screenings. <p>The workshop will be held on Wednesday, May 8 from 6:00 pm &ndash; 8:00 p.m. in the Garrett County Memorial Hospital Board Room. Look Good&hellip;Feel Better is a free, national public service program dedicated to teaching women and teen-age cancer patients the techniques to help restore their appearance and self-image, and how to deal with the sociological side of effects they experience during treatment. This workshop is conducted by volunteer cosmetologists and includes a 12-step skin and makeup program. Cosmetics for the program are provided free of charge courtesy of the American Cancer Society, The Cosmetics, Toiletry &amp; Fragrance Association Foundation and the National Cosmetics Association. Demonstrations in the use of wigs, hats and turbans are also given. This program is free and each participant receives a make up kit valued at $250.
