The Chesapeake Regional Information System For Our Patients (CRISP)
Garrett Regional Medical Center is participating in the Maryland statewide Health Information Exchange (HIE). The Chesapeake Regional Information System for Our Patients, or CRISP is formally designated Maryland's statewide Health Information Exchange by the Maryland Health Care Commission, as directed by the state's legislature and Governor Martin O'Malley.
Currently, when doctors need to share health information about a patient, the process is cumbersome, and usually involves phone calls, frequent mailings, and faxes. Gathering health information on a patient can take hours or even weeks, and sometimes the information is not available at all. CRISP is working to make health information available electronically to providers, so that those caring for patients have immediate access to important information used to make more informed treatment decisions.
Patients have the option to opt-out of participating in the HIE, but then doctors and nurses will not be able to search for that patients health information through the HIE. Patients who chose not to participate must complete the Health Information Exchange Patient Opt-Out Form, visit the CRISP web site at www.crisphealth.org or call 1-877-95-CRISP
