Subacute Care

In August 1997, Garrett County Memorial Hospital added Subacute Care to its expanding number of services. This 10-bed unit is designed for patients of all ages who are too sick to return home or go to a traditional nursing home, but not sick enough to remain in the normal hospital setting.

Rehabilitation or medically complex patients are the most appropriate candidates for Subacute Care. Some patients who fit this description are: post-stroke patients; post-surgical patients; cardio respiratory patients; wound care patients; patients needing services such as physical therapy and occupational therapy or diabetic and colostomy teaching.

The Unit offers a high intensity of nursing care designed to enable the patient to reach their highest level of function and reclaim their independence.

The Subacute Unit, which features a comfortable, home-like environment with its own dining area, activity room and laundry facility, provides patients with the care and education needed to function at home upon discharge.
