The Emergency Department includes 13 patient care areas that feature advanced cardiac monitoring, trauma and diagnostic equipment.
In 2016, Garrett Regional Medical Center was awarded the Acute Stroke Ready Hospital designation by the Joint Commission, a regulatory agency that ensures a commitment to quality and adherence to specific performance standards in providing emergent stroke care.
The department is staffed with qualified emergency physicians who are certified in Advanced Cardiac Life Support and Advanced Trauma Life Support. They are backed by a team of surgical and specialty physicians who are on call around the clock. Rounding out the team are registered nurses, certified in Advanced Cardiac Life Support and Pediatric Advanced Life Support, as well as emergency room technicians. The emergency room is open to everyone 24 hours a day, seven days a week, with care provided to approximately 20,000 patients annually.
Our staff maintains a close working relationship with pre-hospital emergency care providers throughout Garrett and surrounding West Virginia counties. Using Emergency Medical Services (EMS) telecommunications, our emergency room physicians can provide medical direction to local ambulance and rescue personnel, a service that is vital to rural communities.
